A pair of old six-sided diceIn the fall of 1984, during a layoff from General Electric, I sold a “capsule review” to Steve Jackson’s Space Gamer magazine. A month later they accepted my “Mind Duel” board game. Within a year, I was working full-time as a designer and editor for GDW, then TSR, with a bit of freelance for FASA, West End, Flying Buffalo, and others. Nowadays (after an interlude spent in educational publishing) I’m publishing myself—and other people—via Popcorn Press.

¡Una Obra de Amor!

Lester : October 20, 2015 12:36 pm : Announcements, Game Design, Spanish

It’s official!

Nocturnal Media—owned by Stewart Wieck of White Wolf and World of Darkness fame (Vampire: The Masquerade, et al.)—is Kickstarting an English version of the classic Spanish RPG Aquelarre!

I have the happy task of being the translator. (w00t!)

This is no simple fantasy setting, but instead a world of legend and history, set in the Iberian peninsula during the Middle Ages. Five kingdoms vie for power, while angels and demons vie for human souls—not to mention creatures of Spanish fairy tales. Courtiers, knights, churchmen, and cutpurses; Catholic, Moor, and Jew; steadfast people of faith, and masters of mad mystic arts all pursue lives of adventure in this fascinating time.

Translating this all to English will keep me occupied for the next 10 months, and I’m thrilled at that thought!

Please give the Kickstarter project a look, and tell all your friends! Thanks much.

D6xD6 RPG Supers Prototype Cover
In case you hadn’t heard, I’m actively working on a “Supers” adaptation of the D6xD6 RPG rules. Kate did the cover mock-up above; I’m busy drafting initial mechanics right now.

Want to playtest? Here’s a link to the mailing list.

On May 23-24 this year, the Off/On The Square bookstore in Jacksonville, IL, is hosting a charity event: Gaming for Goodness’ Sake. As the image here shows, they’ve made up some shirts for the event, and my Monster Con card game is one of the featured images. You can learn more about the shop in the Journal Courier.

I’ll be there Saturday afternoon, sporting my T-shirt, and running these games:

1:30 Invasion of the Saucer People card game
2:30 Clashing Blades card game
3:30 Monster Con card game
4:30 D6xD6 L’Académie des Arcanes role-playing

Hope to see you there!
