Dark Conspiracy Redux?

It looks like I have an opportunity to own Dark Conspiracy, the first role-playing game I ever designed, released in 1991, as I recall.

It’s not something I can afford to simply purchase out of pocket. While a temporary license would be just a few thousand dollars, ownership is ten times that. I’d need to crowdfund a new edition, a project at about 4-5 times the budget of my largest Kickstarter so far.

To make that crowdfunding work, I’d plan a one-time premium edition–hardbound, saddle-stitched, custom end papers, personalized with the backer’s name in gold-foil on the cover, the way I did for the D13 RPG.

I’d also need to change the mechanics to the d13 system—for a variety of reasons. And I plan to then make that d13 system Open Game License, so anyone could publish anything they like in their own vision of the Dark Conspiracy universe. (Imagine owning your own protodimension!)

The big question: Are there enough DC fans to make that happen?

What do you think?

Thanks, Mike. I’ll look into the site notifications. Here’s hoping you get some time to game soon.

I’m thankful to hear that Dark Conspiracy brought you to role-playing! And thank you for the vote of confidence for its return. 🙂

Dark Conspiracy brought me to roleplaying. I love this game and would be thrilled to see it back in any way, shape, or form.

I was gaming in ’91, but I have never heard of Dark Conspiracy so I don’t have any nostalgia attached to it. Family obligations have been keeping me too busy to game for months.

Is there a problem with your site notifications? I didn’t get the email I usually do for new posts when this came out.

    Happy Holidays, Lester!
