Okay, if I’m going to be brutally honest — and today I need a little pressure release — this Trump worship has taken me from respect for religious faith, to skepticism about religion overall, to outright disgust for American Evangelical Christianity and dislike of the human impulse to worship of any kind.
Caveat: The only thing keeping me from a combative style of atheism is the good hearts and humble sincerity of my many Christian friends. You know who you are.
Why my focus on Christianity in this post? Because let’s be honest: Trump love is affiliated with a brand of Christian nationalism that hates any other religion.
It’s particulary infuriating to see this hypocracy rooted in the Christian™ brand of my own family upbringing. If you truly care for my eternal soul, spend a little more time in the four Gospels and a little less in the Book of Revelations.
Otherwise that cross you wear on the chain around your neck is nothing but a piece of pointless jewelry. Just a showy trinket. If you’re going to wear a symbol of death, a more fitting one would be a whitewashed tomb.
