Here’s an interesting analysis of why Microsoft is strong-arming users into Windows 11, and the company’s stated goal of an “Agentic” OS.
I have a related confession.
When TSR hired me away from GDW back in the early ’90s, they asked whether to set up my cubicle with a Mac or a Windows PC. I told them I was a Mac guy and didn’t really understand Windows, which was a lie: I actually preferred a PC, my home computer was a PC, though I was comfortable with either OS. But my sticking point was that at TSR, PCs came with WordPerfect and Mac with MS Word, and although I was comfortable with either word processor, I vastly preferred Word.
I mention this to say that if I were hiring on there today, I’d tell them whatever they wanted to hear about word processors, just to avoid getting stuck with Windows.
At this job I have a Mac. I don’t love it, but that’s because I use Linux on my own computer.
But I am thrilled not to have Windows. My kids have it for gaming – most games run on Linux these days, but they happen to love a few that don’t.
Happy Holidays, Lester.
